Don't make it complicated....

In my experience, HR professionals can sometimes make what should be simple, into something unnecessarily complex and time consuming.

Each situation is unique

Processes and procedures are certainly important in handling people management problems but finding answers and delivering positive outcomes is what really matters.

My approach is not to keep telling you what you can’t do, but focus on what you can. In my experience, HR professionals can sometimes make what should be simple, into something unnecessarily complex and time consuming. ‘One size fits all’ is not the answer, because each situation is unique.

And rarely is it the case that things are black and white, which is why I’ve developed my expertise in working ‘in the grey’ –  but at the same time, with an eye on the risks.

Most of my career has been spent in senior HR positions, in one of the biggest and busiest local education authorities in the UK. I’ve worked successfully with Leaders and Governors from early years right through to sixth form, in both the maintained and the emerging Academy sectors.

I’ve been responsible for delivering large scale organisational change and forged trusting and productive relationships with trade unions at both local and regional levels. I have an up to date grasp of employment legislation, a sound working knowledge of the complexities of both teachers and support staff pay and conditions and what constitutes good practice.

Since 2011, I’ve broadened my career and now work across NW England as an independent HR consultant.
